Getting Married in Certaldo
Certaldo is one of the most charming small Tuscan towns, located in the heart of the Chianti hills between Florence and Siena. The ancient fortification Certaldo Alto dominates the valley and the modern part of town and is a unique medieval pearl surrounded by fortified walls with spectacular views of the rolling hills, olive groves and cypress trees. Certaldo is also known as the home of the renowned 14th century novelist Giovanni Boccaccio, one of the fathers of the Italian language. Certaldo is also known for the production of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Wine which can easily be tasted in one the numerous Farmhouses, Castles and ancient Cellars among the oldest and most famous in Tuscany.
Legal Civil Ceremonies are celebrated at the ancient Town Hall, Palazzo Pretorio, located uphill in the Medieval Town. The imposing 12th century Palazzo Pretorio is located at the top of the small medieval town and overlooks the small cobblestone streets as well as the whole valley. The facade and open courtyard are all decorated with picturesque stone and terracotta coat-of-arms, symbols of rank of the different Vicari - the most beautiful being those by Della Robbia. The interior walls are adorned with frescoes from the 15th century. Legal Civil Ceremonies are held in the enchanting OPEN AIR COURTYARD where spouses feel like they are stepping into a Medieval fairytale.
Outside the palace the ancient brick buildings, towers and fortifications together with the terraced garden and the walkway provide a splendid view stretching from the hills of the valley to San Gimignano and are a unique setting for unforgettable photos. There are lovely churches and intimate country chapels for Legal Catholic Ceremonies in the surrounding country area. Many Roman style churches are located on hilltops with amazing views of the spectacular countryside, like a 12th century Pieve, which is a magnificent Roman style church.
