Wedding in Siena

Siena is one of Tuscany’s treasures; a fascinating and beautiful Medieval city famous for its Gothic architecture, its cuisine, museums and art.  The city sits across three hills and the Mangia tower rises up from the town hall (Palazzo Pubblico) in the main square, the Piazza del Campo, at the heart of a maze of cobblestone streets.  This is where Civil Ceremonies take place, offering a stunning backdrop. The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site and complementing the famous cathedral are numerous beautiful churches.  Siena’s warm and welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect location for a wedding in Tuscany.

For couples planning a Legal Civil Ceremony, the town hall, Palazzo Pubblico, overlooks the remarkable square, Piazza del Campo, famous throughout the world not only for its architectural beauty, but also for the Palio horse race.  This colourful, exciting and traditional event is perhaps the most spectacular annual festival in Italy, held in Siena’s main square every summer.  Legal Civil Ceremonies are celebrated in the historic Wedding Hall (Sala del Concistoro), next to the Civic Museum, where couples can admire one of the finest art collections in Tuscany, as well as the magnificent halls filled with Renaissance frescoes, famous sculptures and paintings.  After the ceremony, the Piazza del Campo is the perfect setting for spectacular wedding photographs.

If you are planning a Catholic ceremony, there are lots of stunning, historical churches inside the city walls, and a selection of gorgeous abbeys and chapels in the surrounding areas to choose from.   Siena also provides an ideal setting for a romantic Protestant Wedding Ceremony, either legally binding or a blessing..

The Siena hills offer beautiful views across southern Tuscany with its olive groves and vineyards in the hills of Chianti.  The city also makes an ideal base to visit beautiful nearby towns like Pienza, Montalcino, Asciano, Montepulciano and the characteristic villages inChianti, all within easy reach for half-day tours.
